About Me

People say I'm:

perky and bubbly, which I hate because it makes me sound like I'm ditzy, which I'm not. I am a high energy person at work or when I'm engaged in something I am really interested in. My family calls me stubborn and sarcastic, but overall I'm a pretty friendly person. Definitely an extrovert.
Describe Yourself:

I'm 39 for another month and a half. I've been divorced for 4 years, but I have 2 great kids--a son and a daughter. I have a job that I love, although it can be rather demanding. I've been with the same employer for over 17 years and was recently promoted to a level I never imagined I would ever reach. I love working. When I am not working, I spend my time with my kids. When my kids spend time with their dad, I read, sew, watch movies, and live like a recluse. I love to go camping, and I recently discovered the joy of fishing, which seems really strange to people who know me because I'm usually so prissy. I fish; I camp; I'm an amazing cook; I laugh easily and often; I hate "drama"; I make boatloads of money; my kids are not bratty; so aren't you amazed I'm still single?
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:

Not sure yet because I'm not sure what Gather is all about. All I know is that I loathe My Space and don't "get" Facebook, so I thought this community might be a little more to my liking. I'm a little "too old" for My Space and Facebook, I think.

Interests

Favorite Music, Artists, Genres:

Still stuck in the '80s (The Clash, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Oingo Boingo), but also fond of Rock 'N' Roll in general, Tom Petty, Everclear, Weezer, Linkin Park, Nirvana. I loathe and despise Country music and jazz.
Favorite Books, Writers, Genres:

Too many to name! I like Ann Tyler, Alice Hoffman, Anne LaMott, Nick Hornby, and a whole lot of others whose names escape me. I read a lot of "first novels" that I find on the Barnes & Noble Discount Table. I'm also partial to the Southern "Coming of Age" novel.
Favorite Movies, Actors, Genres:

Finding Forrester, The Upside of Anger, School of Rock, Office Space, When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, The Shawshank Redemption, The Spitfire Grill, Mr. and Mrs. Bridge...I like comedies and dramas, not a fan of action flicks, especially those based on comic books.
Favorite TV Shows, Actors:

48 Hours Mystery, Bones, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Samantha Who, all of the Law & Orders (but I hate all of the CSIs), Without a Trace, Closed Case Files, news shows
Favorite Places:

Abiquiu Lake (in Northern New Mexico), the Jemez Mountains, my grandparent's cabin in the White Mountains of AZ. I'm saving for a trip to Yellowstone next year--that may top the list!
Interests and Activities:

Reading, sewing, cooking, gardening
Wish List:

A clean house, a Trader Joe's within 5 miles of my house, a flat screen TV, a second computer for my kids so I won't have to fight with them over computer time anymore.
Favorite Kinds of Cheese::

Smoked Gouda! And Parmesan, of course, for cooking. I'm becoming partial to Gruyere, too.
